DE LA Dance Company closes its 16th season with the romantic ballet La Sylphide,                              May 25th - June 3rd, 2018 

La Sylphide features choreography by August Bournonville and music by Herman Severin Løvenskiold.

On the morning of his wedding to his fiancée Effy, James awakens from a dream to see a mysterious and tantalizing Sylphide before him. His obsession with her sets off a fateful sequence of events where joy turns to sorrow, love to betrayal and infatuation to tragedy.

August Bournonville’s classic Romantic ballet is devotedly recreated by Co Artistic Directors Meridith Benson and Mario de la Nuez. This captivating production is accompanied by an enchanting score by Herman Severin Løvenskiold.. “La Sylphide demonstrates temptation, loss and loving something you cannot have,” said DE LA Dance Company Co Director, Mario de la Nuez. 

“We wanted to present La Sylphide not only because it has been nearly 20 years since a professional company has performed it in Cincinnati, but also because it is one of the most beautiful and romantic ballets of all time,” said Co Artistic Director Meridith Benson. “This is a spellbinding tale of betrayal, dark magic and love set in the enchanting woods of Scotland.  Audiences have loved this ballet for two centuries. The work is full of woodland spirits, diabolical witches and of course men in kilts.”
